Whitchurch to Ellesmere

by Keith May 8, 2019 No Comments

What a soggy, cold & miserable day..  So there’s not going to be a lot of photos on this one! (As it is, my phone’s bagged so I can at least still see the map and get a track out of it)

No locks.. just lift bridges today..

Not doing the Prees Branch – that’s for the return trip..

And crossing into wales..   and back out again..   the canal goes into and back out.. before going into wales “fully” just before Chirk..

Through Ellesmere tunnel and into Ellesmere..  down the arm – hoping to get a spot – there was one – right at the end, so turned the boat and moored up.

Not very nice for the cats though..  and there was a spot at the other end of the arm near the water points.. so drop off Anna and the kids to run to Tesco’s (as its at the end of the arm!) and I’m moving the boat back out again – hope no-ones coming the other way.. there is no room to move in here..

Pulled in and moored up. This will do for the next 3 days as its a 72hr mooring..  and we have a signal.. which we didn’t have at the end of the arm – so that’s a bonus!

But there is always bad with good (or good with bad – depending on the perspective..)  The tow path..  I don’t know what they have used.. but its like quick sand when wet..  and today, tomorrow and the rest of the week..  its wet..  so we can expect to sink if standing still for to long.. and to bring this white crap that coming of the path into the boat with us..  mud we can deal with.. but this chalky junk..  thanks CRT! 🙁
