River Trent , Trent & Mersey Canal

Trent Lock to Swarkestone Juntion

by Keith March 31, 2019 No Comments

Late start.. over slept!    But were moving off the Erewash and onto the River Trent.

Bit wider than the canal this one, and there was a fairly strong stream pulling out from under the bridge that leads to the Ewewash..   Steam going the right way though this time.. as when we pulled in last week, it was reversed due to the flooding settling down!

Got to Sawley Locks, which – I was glad to find – were electric and manned..  so straight in, ropes on and up we go (similar to the Thames locks last summer!)

Got out the lock to a parade of moored boats..   from a River with hardly any – to a flood protected section that has all it seems!

Past Sawley Marina and through the open flood lock..  Seen plenty of boats with white roses.. but not many with red ones..

Not going that way..   nasty surprises for boats down there!

Not sure if the signs are big enough on this river…  😉

And onto the Trent & Mersey..   and past Chapel Farm Marina

And when you have a thing for trains..   turn your garage into a siding shed and run the miniature railway tracks through your own garden!

We do see all sorts of boats on our travel’s..  I guess this one is ready for the apocalypse!

And there is nothing like a hard day’s locking..

Didn’t get as far as planned today – and the late start didn’t help.. so were pulling in for the night and figure out when to move next to get to Burton upon Trent before Friday..
