Hampton Court to The Bells of Ouzeley (Harvester), Old Windsor

by Keith June 19, 2021 No Comments

The rain has gone, the boards are still green (at the moment!) and it’s time to get some miles done. It’s Saturday, no need to worry about checking in with work today!

The usual stop for water at Molesey Lock is done, and it’s back past Ash and Tagg’s Island..  which reminds me..    If you ever think about having dealings with “Hampton Riviera” –  the “swiss” style house in the background..  I would do some research first. Personally, I wouldn’t..   ( https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/05/17/couples-paid-2m-two-worthless-houseboats-take-seller-court/ )

And past Walton, and Walton marina (yes, I did phone them as we ran out of gas when here last – but no..  no Propane in stock at all)..

Through and under Walton Bridge..

And through past D’Oyly Carte Island..   And yes..  if I had the money, I would offer the owners a price they could not refuse to buy the island and the house – along with the mooring rights, get the house put back to what is should be – a house and not a restaurant (along with its victorian grandure which has been sadly lost to time and neglect)..  and re-open the mooring business..   Come on lottery win!!  😀   ( link )

Through Shepperton Lock, and the moorings outside the pub..   full as usual! 😀

Round Pharaoh’s Island (on the right)

Past Chertsey Meads Marina

Under Chertsey Bridge..

Through Chertsey Lock and past the weir, with most people taking advantage of the extra water flow as the gates are opened up..  Which also explains why were only doing 2.5mph upstream and the engine is complaining a bit..

And more properties for sale..

Past Michael Dennett Boatbuilders, and the work they do is gorgeous!  ( https://www.dennettboatbuilders.co.uk/ )

And this little fella..   sitting watching the boats go past..

And on the run towards Staines-upon-Thames..

And after one aborted attempt to pull in near Queensmead Lake Staines – against the flow – finally got the boat in the right place to get pulled in so we can figure out the next step.  We can stay here if we need to, but – for tonight, lets see if we can get to the Bells of Ouzeley Harvester 😉  So it’s off again after the dogs have had a little walk.

And were back out of the M25..

And – I suppose if you are unfortunate to have your house burn down.. and have a boat moored..   you at least have somewhere to stay!

There are so many lovely houses on this stretch..

And it’s onto tonight’s mooring – which thankfully, there was room for us.   But..  that doesnt look quite right in the distance..  we will see tomorrow.  In the mean time – Shaemus..  stay off that main road!
