Fobney Lock to Aldermaston Wharf

by Keith June 6, 2018 No Comments

Were off and moving again!  After a nice week with a car park, no shops within sensible walking distance.. and a pile driver (Mon-Fri 9-5) its time to move on.

Lots of goslings around this time of year..  These anxious parents got everyone out of the water when we were approaching, and only let them back in again after we had passed!

And the pixie (or Buddah Girl) is back again.. sitting on the roof.. doing school work!

Pulled up at Tyle Mill Services for a tank top up whilst I had a phone call for work..  CC decided to drop the hose adaptor/joiner in the canal – and no amount of fishing for it with the magnet recovered it..   so lets hope we don’t need to join two hoses together anytime soon!

Once the tank was full, prep the lock.. open the swing bridge infront of it – to the annoyance of the car drivers 🙂 and onward we go..  But.. I’m pretty sure that there are supposed to be walls at this lock to stop the water from escaping..

There is still a few more hours of cruising still to do before we get to an area where there are shops within a sensible walking distance.. but we have supplies for now.. so were stopping at Aldermaston for tonight between the lock and the swing bridge – on a water point admittedly (but the signs are confusing – looking closely it says 48 hours..  but the 8 has been rubbed out so hmm..), but we will be moving on tomorrow – so we should be OK.

Were getting closer to Newbury, then Hungerford (for Generator fuel from Fuel Cell Systems) and then Devises..  and the flight of 16 locks which must all be done at the same time!!!
