Well – a long-ish day planned for today as we need to get to Braunston – as we have a table booked at the boathouse for 4pm – so, with a little rain forcast, but a lot of wind – and oh boy was it windy! It’s time to get a move on!
Firstly.. Marston Doles locks
Did I mention it was a grey day and windy..
Past the moorings at the Old Engine House Arm.. we were moored here a while ago – the time back from the aborted run due to Lock 71.. (Braunston to Napton Adkins Lock) and down the Napton Flight of locks.
It was a pleasant run down – even though it started to rain heavily.. some boats were coming up, so locks were set for us thankfully. Eventually the rain gave way to some sunshine, and the coats could come off to warm up in the sun!
Once out of the Napton flight, Round Napton Hill – with a lot less boats here than were used to seeing..
Past Napton Narrowboats, with a lot of their boats still in the base.. guess they still have a few to rent out if anyone is in need of a short post-lockdown stay-cation.
Past the residential site near Sawbridge with all their wind generators making a right old racket whilst spinning mentally.. Well if you moor in a windy spot.. it makes sense to have one – or three is seems on some boats – but all of them are on the ground, not on the boat.. a wind generator on the roof whistling away in the wind can echo quite badly through the hull!
And not a lot changed on this one since August of 2020.. other than its a little higher out the water now.. so someone is doing what they can to keep it afloat!
Eventually were in Braunston, and grabbed the last spot opposite the Boathouse. Again, the cats are not too sure, and poor Kizzie – she only walked along to say hello as we came back to the boat, did not see the cygnets in the water.. but momma saw Kiz and shewed her away..
And just to end… with a guest cameo by Shameus.. how windy has it been today.. this windy..
