Llangollen Canal , Shropshire Union Canal

The Barbridge Inn to Wrenbury-cum-Frith

by Keith May 5, 2019 No Comments

Time to go back from where we came (or just a little bit)..   upto the Middlewich branch to turn round and down back past The Barbridge Inn and to the LLangollen Canal..

Got stuck behind these pair for about a mile..   weaving.. stopping..  bumping..   oh I hope there not turning onto the LLangollen..

And were here..   came past yesterday.. but today.. time to turn onto the LLangollen.

Fenders up for this one.. as CRT tried to repair this lock during the winter maintenance.. but its still only 6ft 10 wide, and the walls bow in when its been raining..  so we can only use these when CRT lock keepers are on site. They are planning to take it out again during next maintenance..   which will be for 3 months to totally dismantle the walls and re-build the entire lock..

There is 1 boat in the lock..  us, and 3 others queued up to go up..   so for some.. it will take a while to get onto the canal!

For now.. we (should hopefully) fit..    and it was a squeeze..  about 20mm each side to play with..

And were through.. the flight of 4 locks done..   plain sailing (as they say) from now on..

Time to pull in for a quick comfort break for both myself and the dogs!

On past Swanley Bridge marina – and those clouds are not looking very friendly…

Through Swanley Locks (2 of)

Through Baddiley Locks (3 of)

Another well placed sign for those planning locations for Sunday morning 😉

And onto Wenbury-cum-Firth.

Pulled in and set off across the fields, through the church graveyard to the main road.. and left to the Spar for some basics..  (surprised Anna didn’t stop to collect more “grave dirt”… )
