Its a weekend of moving.. the car’s gone back, we’ve had our last Friday night takeaway from the local chippie.. and were good to go!
Set off early-ish on Saturday to try to get as far as we could. We have supplies for the weekend, but with a busted fridge (the compressor finally died!) and the weather heating up – we can’t keep to many perishable items on board (with luck we will be in Penkridge at the end of the month, and be able to pull into Midland Chandlers and replace it – without having to get it delivered anywhere!)
Just outside of Burton upon Trent, the Marston’s factory and distribution centre opposite Shobnall marina…
There are some nice stretches along this bit… and a few very narrow bridges.. definitely not in wide beam country now!
Onto and past Barton Marina.. with very well kept edges on both sides!
Anyone for a “Cruise Thru” Coffee ????
And a very straight part.. running along side the A38.. I wonder how may distracted drivers I caused being there!
Thought the lock and out onto another river section..
Past the church of St. Leonard, Wychnor (past many churches on our travels, and some that are right on the canal which offer moorings – payment for the use of which is to be made by attending the Sunday service 😉 )..
On into Alrewas.. did plan on shooting straight through, but found a nice spot outside the town with some open fields for the cats to hunt in.
Moving again tomorrow..
A not so early start on Sunday.. but of a lie in, but we hope to get to Rugeley (and the Tesco’s there) before it closes at 4pm.. so its time to get going..
Just outside of Alrewas, a new marina being constructed..
And through to a very busy Fradley Junction. Turn off onto the Coventry Canal here.. if we were going south (perhaps on the way back from wales).. but for us – for now – its northwards..
A quick stop in Armitage so I can run to the shop – as were not going to make Tesco’s before it closes at 4pm..
Back onboard after going “through” (an alleyway between the factories) the Amitage Shanks factory.. and along the old Armitage Tunnel (still as narrow – so we (the first of 3 boats to get there) had to check its clear before starting in)…
Stopped at the water point just beyond.. topped off the water tank.. and spotted a sole duckling darting around all over the place.. and yes.. CC wanted to adopt it – but no.. leave it be – it’s quite happy without its mamma..
And into Rugeley.. pulled in just past Bridge 65B – clear enough for boats to get round the corner and not cause issues.. and out to…. McDonalds.. yea.. we decided to eat out (of sorts) tonight.
Moving on again tomorrow.. or Wednesday.. depends how the toilet tanks holds out!
