Staines-upon-Thames to Datchet

by Keith May 26, 2018 No Comments

Work up yesterday.. found that there was a gap big enough for us.. so we untied from next to James’ boat and moved back to take up a slot on the bank..  and then spend the day not going anywhere and reducing the washing pile!

Woke early to get a good head start on the day..  set of at 8am and got to Bell Weir Lock – which was on self-service at this time of day..   Celeste pressed the buttons, and helped with the ropes and we were soon through – even though the top gates were jammed up with detritus that came down the river..

Up past the National Trust land, and home of the Magna Carta Monument..  Driven past here so many times on the way back from the DC when the motorway was jammed..  but never stopped. Not got chance to today either – maybe next time..

Up through old Windsor Lock – and past houses on stilts..

I wonder if ‘technically’ this boat needs a licence – as its not ‘in’ the water..  I’m sure there are technicalities to cover this, but at least having a way to lift the boat out of the water, should reduce the amount of Gelcoat replacement it needs..

And onto and round the grounds of Windsor Castle..  not quite got to the Castle yet – still going past the houses on the outskirts of the grounds at the moment 🙂

Eventually got to Datchet – and found a mooring thats not on the map!  Yes – there are signs stating its shallow.. but we got the stern in, and left the bow out a bit – so we will see.

And Kizzy has decided that the other boat here is more suited to her.
